TIGERS 52 GLASGOW 44

Thursday April 28, 2011
AUSSIE veteran Shane Parker was Sheffield’s last-heat hero as the Owlerton men picked up all three points from a competitive clash against Glasgow.

Parker scored a brilliant paid maximum against his former club and was up to the task in Heat 15 with the home side requiring a 3-3 from the race to take a maximum haul from the meeting.

It was a mid-meeting burst which put the Sheffield Window Centre-backed side in charge, and having gone twelve points up they restricted the visitors to a 6-3 from their first tactical ride in Heat 8 as Theo Pijper won but his partner Nick Morris failed to finish.

Josh Auty overhauled Christian Henry to win Heat 12 as Sheffield pulled clear, and a brilliant 5-1 from Parker and skipper Ricky Ashworth over Joe Screen in the next race looked to have tied up the points with time to spare.

But a shock 8-1 from the visitors in Heat 14 put that back into doubt, with a double-points James Grieves and reserve Michal Rajkowski producing the goods for Glasgow – but although Ashworth was pegged at the back of Heat 15, Parker dominated from the front and made sure Sheffield kept the margin they required.

Eric Boocock’s side now make the long journey down to the South-West as they provide the opposition for Plymouth’s first-ever match at Premier League level at the St. Boniface Arena on Friday.

SHEFFIELD 52: Shane Parker 14+1, Ricky Ashworth 10+1, Josh Auty 7+1, Hugh Skidmore 7+1, Emiliano Sanchez 6, Simon Lambert 5+2, Ashley Birks 3+1.
GLASGOW 44: James Grieves 10, Josh Grajczonek 9, Theo Pijper 7, Joe Screen 6+1, Christian Henry 5+2, Michal Rajkowski 4+2, Nick Morris 3.
