GLASGOW v TIGERS, PREVIEW

Friday May 04, 2018
SHEFFIELD go straight back into Championship action when they make the trip to Glasgow tonight (7.30pm).

The Ashfield side are another who have been hotly tipped to mount a title challenge this season with a powerful yet well-balanced line-up.

Their promotion made major changes over the winter after missing out on major silverware in 2017 – and much of that was down to Sheffield.

The Owlerton men won on their last league visit to the Scottish venue in early September, whilst a 31-34 defeat despite injuries suffered in a curtailed play-off semi-final later that month was easily enough to progress on aggregate.

Glasgow are led by British duo Chris Harris and Richie Worrall – the sole survivor from last year - but their key man so far this season has been the in-form Claus Vissing.

Sheffield, meanwhile, will be without captain Kyle Howarth after his withdrawal from Thursday’s home meeting.
Tigers bosses are assessing their options for cover – which are severely limited as all but one of the Championship clubs are in action on Friday.

Boss Simon Stead said: “We’ll look at the situation of whether any Premiership rider could fit in with a converted average – but if rider-replacement is the best option, or the only option, then that’s what we’ll have to go with.

“We went to Glasgow with about four and half riders last season and got a result, so it’s a place we do ride well.

“I certainly don’t want the lads to go there with their heads down. Let’s crack on, Friday is a new day and we can quickly turn things around.”

GLASGOW: Chris Harris, Lewis Kerr, Claus Vissing, Paul Starke, Richie Worrall, Jack Thomas, James Sarjeant.

SHEFFIELD: TBC, Todd Kurtz, Lasse Bjerre, Jan Graversen, Charles Wright, Jack Smith, James Shanes.
