NEW SIGNING FOR TIGERS

Thursday December 07, 2017
SHEFFIELD have snapped up Charles Wright as the latest new face to bolster their 2018 side looking to defend the SGB Championship title.

Wright, 29, brings plenty of experience and firepower to a Window Centre Tigers team also including Lasse Bjerre, Josh Bates and Jack Smith.

The Stockport star arrives from Redcar and is hoping to continue his development after making significant strides in the last couple of seasons.

“I’m pleased to sign for Sheffield,” Wright said. “They won the league last year, so it’s good to be part of a winning team.

“It’s a club a lot of riders want to ride for. Everyone has heard good things about what the promotion are doing.

“They’re ambitious and they are going in the right direction, which is what I want to keep doing.

“I’ve been moving forwards for a few years now, and I just want to keep that going. I’ve got no expectations, just to keep improving.

“I was holding my own as a second heat-leader last year, doing heat 15s regularly and doing quite well so I want to kick on from that when I get started with Sheffield.”

Wright arrives on a 7.47 average with Bjerre on an 8.32 figure, Bates taking up 6.54 points and Smith benefitting from a 2.5% reduction to sit on 2.51.

It means the Tigers have 17.66 points left to play with to fill the final three spots in their starting line-up.
