TIGERS 54 GLASGOW 38

SHEFFIELD raced to their first Premier League win of the season in impressive fashion with a 54-38 triumph over Glasgow at Owlerton.

The Window Centre Tigers put in a powerful all-around team display to earn a convincing victory over the highly-fancied Ashfield outfit.

It was a tremendous night for the South Yorkshire side as they bounced back from three successive away defeats in emphatic fashion.

Skipper Simon Stead picked up where he left off at Peterborough on Sunday to strike his second consecutive paid maximum from the No.1 spot.

And he was full of praise for his colleagues after they put in their best performance of the season so far.

“We were really pleased,” said Stead. “I expected it to be probably the toughest test of the season so far, so to go out and pull together as a team like that was superb.

“When you look down the score chart you see everybody has played their part tonight, and it’s great to get our first Premier League points on the board.

“The fact we’ve got ourselves together after a disappointing few results and done that to a fantastic team in Glasgow is a great result for the club and the fans.”

Stead’s partnership with No.2 Dimitri Berge proved crucial for the hosts, with the pair striking three 5-1s as they played starring roles.

Berge was only denied a paid maximum against his former club in the final race as he narrowly missed out in a tremendous tussle with Ben Barker.

Jason Garrity also suffered just one defeat, storming to three race wins in his opening three rides as the Tigers quickly seized control of the meeting.

With Josh Bates striking double figures and middle order partner Kyle Howarth putting in a solid display, the Sheffield top five comfortably nullified the threat posed by Glasgow’s powerhouse side.

Arthur Sissis also enjoyed a promising return after his lengthy injury absence, winning his first outing on his way to paid five, whilst Nathan Greaves battled throughout on a tough evening.

The Owlerton outfit will now look to build on their confidence-boosting win when they travel to Berwick on Saturday (7pm).

SHEFFIELD 54: Dimitri Berge 12+2, Simon Stead 11+1, Josh Bates 10, Jason Garrity 10, Kyle Howarth 6+2, Arthur Sissis 4+1, Nathan Greaves 1.
