EDINBURGH 67 TIGERS 27

Friday September 05, 2014
SHEFFIELD suffered a hefty 67-27 defeat at Edinburgh as they endured a miserable night on Friday.

The Window Centre Tigers had no answer for the high-flying Monarchs despite a typically determined effort on a night they would rather forget.

They provided only one race winner, conceding six 5-1s in the final seven races as they were condemned to a heavy loss.

Team boss Joe Screen admitted he was disappointed by the result, but he has called on his side to put the defeat behind them.

Said Screen: "We always knew it was going to be a tough night, and that proved to be the case. We were disappointed we couldn't push them closer, but it was just a bad night all-around for us.

"It was definitely one we'd rather forget, so we've just got to put it behind us and move on to the next one now."

Skipper Simon Stead top scored for the Tigers, taking their only race win in heat five and claiming a second place with a tactical ride in heat 11.

Youngster Josh Bates also took a second place whilst going for double points during a blockbuster heat eight as he put in a solid showing at reserve.

Experienced middle order man Leigh Lanham put in a creditable performance in the engine room of the side, but it was ultimately a disappointing night for the Owlerton outfit despite their best efforts.
