WOODWARD WINS OPENER

Monday March 31, 2014
EASTBOURNE’S Australian rider Cameron Woodward was victorious in a shortened Air Fence Fund Bonanza at Owlerton on Monday.

Woodward had won all three of his races at the point where a halt was called due to rain, with the meeting ironically having been put back by four days due to poor weather last Thursday.

Window Centre Tigers star Andre Compton continued his strong start to the season with runners-up spot overall as he recovered from a first-ride last place to notch two wins, and that meant he edged out Ashley Birks and Simon Stead on count-back, Stead having to be content with three second places.

Amongst the other Sheffield regulars, Leigh Lanham won his first ride before hitting mechanical trouble, and Adam Roynon was also struck by gremlins after being involved in some good racing.

Veteran Sam Ermolenko also picked up a couple of points some eight years after his retirement from the sport, whilst Josh Bates won both of the reserves races which were possible and was followed home on each occasion by fellow Tigers man Simon Nielsen.

SCORES: Cameron Woodward 9, Andre Compton 6, Ashley Birks 6, Simon Stead 6, Aaron Summers 5, Richard Hall 5, Ty Proctor 4, Josh Auty 4, Leigh Lanham 3, Adam Roynon 3, Sam Ermolenko 2, Taylor Poole 1.
