TIGERS 57 WORKINGTON 36

Thursday June 30, 2011
A SHANE Parker 14+1 paid-maximum helped the Tigers increase their lead at the top of Premier League table.

The Aussie, who is retiring from the sport at the end of the season, showed there is still plenty of fuel left in the tank and continues to pile up the points in the Tigers race for the title.

Workington arrived at Owlerton in third place in the table, but they had no answer as Eric Boocock's men produced one of their best performances of the season.

And they got off to a bright start with Ashley Birks featuring in the mix of the action early on. He was involved in two 5-1s - the first in Heat 2 with Simon Lambert and then another with Parker in Heat 4 putting the Yorkshiremen into a 16-8 lead.

Tigers guest Richard Hall and Emilano Sanchez repeated the feat over Workington’s man-of-the-moment Peter Kildemand in Heat 6 and then Parker and Lambert slammed in five more in race 7 after Tomas Topinka encounted some mechanical gremlins.

And when Sanchez and Birks raced to a third successive home maximum in Heat 8 the match was more-or-less beyond the Comets trailing 34-14.

Workington replied with a Kildemand tactical ride win in Heat 10 and then they further reduced the deficit two races later with a Topinka and Gary Irving 4-2.

Heat 13 produced the race of the night with Parker passing James Wright, and Kildemand produced a good ride to get the better of Hall, resulting in a share of the points.

But Tigers got back into maximum mode in the penultimate race when Hugh Skidmore and Lambert cruised home ahead of Topinka and Kenny Ingalls.
