TIGERS V WORKINGTON - THURSDAY, PREVIEW

Wednesday June 29, 2011
TOP of the table Sheffield Tigers face fellow high-fliers Workington in a mouthwatering Premier League clash at Owlerton on Thursday (7.45).

Tigers took over from the Comets at the top last week but they have ridden more meetings than the teams just below them.

That means they cannot afford to lose this meeting which is sure to provide plenty of entertainment on the fastest track in British Speedway.

Tigers club owner Neil Machin reckons it will be the toughest test of the season.

He said: “We lost at home to Somerset but this could be even tougher for us.

“Workington have put together a team with strength in every department and they are sure to make it hard for us.

“And because of the fact that we have dropped points here and there, sometimes when we shouldn’t have done, we have put extra pressure on ourselves to win at home.

“Workington are a super side and have riders who know how to race around Owlerton, the fastest track in British Speedway.

“And four of their riders are currently part of Elite League squads which underlines what a fine side they are.”

Tigers legend Shawn Moran will be a guest of the club for the meeting and will be signing copies of his new DVD ‘Shooey’.

SHEFFIELD: Richard Hall, Emiliano Sanchez, Ricky Ashworth, Hugh Skidmore, Shane Parker, Simon Lambert, Ashley Birks.

WORKINGTON: James Wright, Richard Lawson, Tomas Topinka, Rusty Harrison, Peter Kildemand, Gary Irving, Kenny Ingalls.
