RICKY Ashworth was the star of the show as Sheffield picked up three more Premier League points with a comfortable 57-37 home victory against Redcar.
The Tigers skipper scored 14 points in what was a powerful all-round team performance. There were good contributions from Shane Parker (12+1) and Hugh Skidmore (10+3), but there was also plenty of support from the reserve berth. This saw Ashley Birks have his best night of the season with 8+2 and Simon Lambert also chipped in with 6+1.
Sheffield were never troubled and immediately hit the ground running to open up an unassailable 27-9 lead after six races.
The Bears then nominated Matej Kus for a tactical ride in Heat 7, but the Czech Republic rider and former World Champion Gary Havelock could only muster a 5-3 race advantage after finishing behind race winner Parker.
Havelock and Kus did hit back with a Redcar 5-1 in Heat 10 and race 11 was shared after Jason Lyons scored double-points for finishing second to Parker.
But the final four races saw the Tigers run out comfortable winners and they will be hoping for a repeat performance when they travel to the South Tees Motor Park for tomorrow night’s return fixture.
