LEICESTER V TIGERS - PREVIEW

Friday April 01, 2011
SHEFFIELD Tigers have the honour of opening a new era of speedway at Leicester on Saturday.

The Lions closed down at the end of the 1983 season following the loss of their Blackbird Road venue to housing development.

But now they are back in business and Sheffield are delighted to be the opposition in a special opening night challenge fixture.

Club owner Neil Machin said: "All our riders should feel pride in the fact that they are playing their part in an historic night which is a big night for the city of Leicester.

"Naturally we would like to get a good result but overall I feel it will be a good night for the sport in general, to have a new track in the Premier League is good for our business."

Tigers are expected to be unchanged from the side which beat Berwick on Thursday with Emiliano Sanchez reporting no ill effects following his comeback from injury.

LEICESTER: Sergey Darkin, John Oliver, Ilya Bondarenko, Richard Hall, Richard Sweetman, Jamie Courtney, Jan Graversen.

SHEFFIELD: Shane Parker, Hugh Skidmore, Ricky Ashworth, Emiliano Sanchez, Josh Auty, Ashley Birks, Simon Lambert.
