SHEFFIELD Tigers gained a consolation point from their 46-44 defeat at Rye House on Saturday.

Josh Auty continued his stunning start to the season with 13+1 from six outings and he had solid support from Ricky Ashworth, Shane Parker and Simon Lambert.

Tigers could even have claimed a win from their opening Premier League meeting of the season but needed a maximum 5-1 from the last race.

Chris Neath, back in the Rye House side after missing the start of the season for personal reasons, completed a five-ride maximum to keep Tigers at bay in the decider.

The fact that Sheffield were in contention in the last race was great credit to Eric Boocock’s men as they found themselves eight-points down with just five heats left.

But they kept plugging away and they will now fancy their chances of adding to their point when they face Berwick in the first home league encounter of the season this Thursday, March 31.

RYE HOUSE 46: Chris Neath 15, Jordan Frampton 10, Jason Doyle 7, Luke Bowen 5+3, Ritchie Hawkins 5, Nelson 3, Ben Morley 1.

SHEFFIELD 44: Josh Auty 13+1, Ricky Ashworth 9+1, Shane Parker 8+2, Simon Lambert 7+2, Hugh Skidmore 4, Byron Bekker 3+1, Emiliano Sanchez r/r.
