SHEFFIELD gave an impressive all-round display to secure a hard fought 47-43 Challenge win at Scunthorpe on Friday.
Josh Auty, the talented Great Britain Under-21 star, showed his liking for the Normanby Road track with a 15+1 score including a decisive win in the penultimate race to swing the match back in Sheffield’s favour.
Eric Boocock’s men raced into a dream 10-2 lead after two races but were pegged back and the scores were level with three heats remaining.
But when Auty partnered impressive reserve Ashley Birks to a maximum in Heat 14 it gave Scunthorpe the last race to grab a draw.
Auty and Shane Parker packed the minor placings and that was enough to hand Tigers the win on a night when they covered well for shoulder injury victim Emiliano Sanchez.
SCUNTHORPE: Tero Aarnio 12+1, Ben Wilson 8+1, Thomas Jorgensen 6+2, Steve Worrall 5, David Howe 4+1, Viktor Bergstrom 4+1, Carl Wilkinson 4+1.
