TOP international Speedway stars will launch Sheffield’s new season of racing at Owlerton Stadium this Thursday, March 17.
The world-famous Belle Vue Aces from Manchester will make the short trip across to face the Tigers in a spectacular ‘War of the Roses’ showdown (7.45).
And the Elite League side have confirmed they will be tracking a full strength team which means big winter signing Chris Harris, the Great Britain Grand Prix star, will make his Aces debut.
Belle Vue co-promoter David Gordon said: “Somebody asked me what kind of team we’d be sending across to Sheffield and the answer was simple. It’s Yorkshire v Lancashire, battles of the Roses, so what do you think?”
Tigers skipper Ricky Ashworth is relishing the prospect of the opening night clash – especially as he is a Salford lad!
“Things didn’t quite work out for me when I was doubling-up with Belle Vue last year so it would be nice to beat them on Thursday, I can’t wait,” said Ashworth.
“It’s going to be a big night and I’m sure there will be a big crowd here to see it.”
And there’s an opportunity for fans to see the action in style in the luxurious surroundings of the Panorama Room Restaurant where a carvery for just £7.95 will be available.
