ADMISSION PRICES PROZEN

Sunday March 06, 2011
SHEFFIELD Tigers Speedway bosses have handed fans a massive pre-season boost by holding admission prices at last year's level.

The Owlerton side, who will be put through their paces at the club's practice session on Thursday, are strongly fancied for an assault on the major Premier League silverware in 2011.

And with the season less than a fortnight away excitement is growing amongst fans, riders and management alike.

Despite spiralling costs in the sport it means admission will remain at £14 for adults, including a free racecard, while Sheffield will continue with their U12s for free policy.

Said club owner Neil Machin: “Such as VAT increases are usually passed on to supporters and even though substantial sums are involved we have opted not to do so.

“It is a bit of a gamble for us but the whole idea is to keep speedway affordable in what are tough economic times.

“With our promotional activities coupled with the facilities we have at Owlerton we hope to introduce more people to our sport rather that suck an extra quid out of the regulars’ pockets.

“It will be a tough year but we always try to be pro-active and hopefully it will pay off.

“We are also looking to hold on to our existing supporters who are very loyal and we want each and every one of them to know how much we value their support for the club.

“It’s a difficult time for the economy and there is a lot of negativity around, but here at Sheffield Speedway we’re counting the days to the new season and we can’t wait to get the bikes out on track.

“In comparison to other sports we believe Speedway presents good value and we will be working hard to bring new fans through the turnstiles.”

Tigers open their season against Elite League Belle Vue on Thursday, March 17, and their public practice takes place next Thursday from 4pm onwards.
