TIGERS V KELLY'S HEROES - THURSDAY, PREVIEW

SHEFFIELD Tigers will remember one of their most popular Speedway riders when they stage an international challenge with the USA tourists on Thursday (7.45).

Kelly Moran, who made 100 appearances for the club and thrilled fans week in, week out, died this summer after a battle with illness back home in California.

Now his former club are to pay tribute by staging a meeting between the Sheffield Window Centre-backed Tigers and 'Kelly's Heroes' - a team made up of the three British-based Californians and the touring team.

And in a nice twist to the evening, Moran’s former wife Lorna and daughter Chelsea, who both still ive in Sheffield, have accepted invites to be at the big night.

Said Tigers owner Neil Machin: “Speedway will never see the likes of Kelly Moran again. He was so spectacular, naturally gifted and box office.

“You would pay good money and travel a long way to go and see Kelly Moran, and his brother Shawn. Sheffield fans were very fortunate to have them both here at Owlerton.

“It’s a fitting way to honour his memory and we feel we are giving fans value for money on this special night."

Fans will be handed a meal voucher at the turnstiles which offers them a carvery in the plush Owlerton restaurant for just £5.
