NORTHERN RIDERS CHAMPIONSHIP - THURSDAY, PREVIEW

SHEFFIELD Speedway are proud to host one of the sport's great traditional individual events on Thursday night - the Northern Riders' Championship (7.45).

Some of the leading riders from the Premier League will do battle, including a handful who will also appear ay Owlerton in the Premier League Riders' Championship later this month.

Club officials have spent the last few days piecing together the line-up which should pull in a bumper crowd.

Co-promoter David Hoggart said: "Eric Boocock, our team manager, has worked hard on the line-up for this meeting and we're pleased with the standard which should provide some terrific entertainment."

Home interest rests with Richard Hall, Josh Auty, Ricky Ashworth and Hugh Skidmore but they are facing up to some of the best riders in the Premier League.

Oliver Allen has recently joined King's Lynn from Elite League Ipswich, Shane Parker and Sam Masters are both capable of riding the Owlerton track well and new Premier League champions Edinburgh have three riders in the line-up - Ryan Fisher, Andrew Tully and Kalle Katajisto.

Scunthorpe's former Great Britain international David Howe is also included along with former Tigers duo Ben Wilson (Stoke) and Kyle Legault (Newport).

Newcastle's Mark Lemon is a man in form and Birmingham skipper Jason Lyons is sure to attract some traveling fans from the second city.
