TIGERS 49 GLASGOW 44

Thursday June 24, 2010
SHEFFIELD Tigers continued their climb up the Premier League table with a 49-44 win over Glasgow at Owlerton on Thursday.

But they were taken to a last heat decider by a Scottish side inspired by Chesterfield-born Joe Screen, the former England
international who notched 15 superb points.

And going into Heat 15 Sheffield were ahead by only three points with Screen out again for the visitors - but he dramatically shed a chain and the Owlerton side secured victory with a 4-2. Glasgow were handed a consolation point because they lost by less than seven.

Sheffield were without the injured Ricky Ashworth who was ruled out with bad bruising after crashing in the Elite League for Belle Vue on Monday - and his absence was a major blow for Eric Boocock's men.

Said Boocock: “It meant we missed out on the bonus, but we were relieved to take the win. Joe was in superb form and we had to battle hard but it keeps us well on target.”
