SHEFFIELD are out of the Knockout Cup after a disappointing 54-36 home defeat by Birmingham - that's 117-61 on aggregate.
The Brummies were injury hit after their home defeat against Edinburgh on Wednesday but even without broken leg victim Chris Kerr they were much too strong - and refused to settle for just their inevitable win on aggregate as they defended a 38-point first leg lead.
For Tigers it was a meeting blighted by inconsistent gating, mechanical failures and falls, summed up by Josh Auty packing up when ahead in Heat 3 and Richard Hall grinding to a halt from the start-line in the next race.
Now the Sheffield Window Centre-backed side get back to league business with two tough away meetings in as many nights. They go to Somerset on Friday followed by Rye House on Saturday.
SHEFFIELD: Paul Cooper 8+1, Josh Auty 8, Ricky Ashworth 7, Josef Franc 6+1, Richard Hall 3, Hugh Skidmore 2+2, Arlo Bugeja 2+1.
BIRMINGHAM: Steve Johnston 13+2, Justin Sedgmen 12+2, Richard Sweetman 12+1, Jason Lyons 8, Aaron Summers 7+1, Tom Perry 2+1, Chris Kerr r/r.
