BIRMINGHAM V TIGERS - PREVIEW

Tuesday May 04, 2010
SHEFFIELD Tigers go up for the cup on Wednesday in a big week for the club.

The Sheffield Window Centre-backed side head to Birmingham for the first leg before hosting the prestigious British Semi-final at Owlerton on Thursday.

The top eight riders from the event will go to the British Final next month.

And whilst club owner Neil Machin wants to see a good display from the team at Birmingham, he says there will be plenty of focus on Ricky Ashworth, Richard Hall and Josh Auty on home territory the following night.

“This is a chance for them to prove what they can do in some pretty good company,” said Machin.

“They’ve all struggled at one time or another but reaching the British Final will give them a massive confidence boost as we head into a pretty tough month in the Premier League.

“The consistency is probably down to the fact that we’ve already had three rain-offs at home and the fixture list has been pretty tough for us with recent meetings at King’s Lynn and Edinburgh while in May we have to go to Somerset, Rye House and Workington in the league.

“At the end of the month we’ll have a pretty good idea of how capable we are – but it won’t hurt if some of our riders have their confidence levels raised by reaching the British Final.”

Birmingham are unchanged from the side which beat Berwick on Sunday.

Sheffield are looking for a replacement for the injured Arlo Bugeja who is out until next week.

BIRMINGHAM: Steve Johnston, Aaron Summers, Chris Kerr, Richard Sweetman, Jason Lyons, Justin Sedgmen, Jake Anderson.

SHEFFIELD: Ricky Ashworth, Hugh Skidmore, Josh Auty, Josef Franc, Richard Hall, Replacement for Arlo Bugeja, Paul Cooper.
