OWLERTON HANDED BRITISH SEMI-FINAL

Wednesday February 03, 2010
SHEFFIELD Speedway will host one of the biggest events on the domestic calendar this season.

The Premier League club have been handed a British Semi-Final with 16 riders doing battle for a place in the final at Wolverhampton in June.

Owlerton, complete with the benefit of brilliant new panorama room facilities, will stage the first semi-final on Thursday, May 6. The other is at King's Lynn the following Wednesday.

It could mean Grand Prix stars Chris Harris and Tai Woffinden will be on display at Sheffield along with a host of Elite League stars.

Tigers owner Neil Machin said: "I've been fighting for the re-introduction of semi finals for years and having no seeding is the best way forward. There will be no comfort zone and we should be in for some spectacular racing."

* THE club will announce their exciting plans for the grand opening of the 2010 season in a press release at 9am tomorrow (Thursday).
