SHEFFIELD v NEWCASTLE - THURSDAY PREVIEW

Wednesday July 22, 2009
SHEFFIELD have been warned against complacency ahead of tomorrow night’s Premier League match against Newcastle at Owlerton (7.45pm).

The Diamonds have been the league’s whipping boys on their travels for much of this season, but in recent weeks have strengthened their side with the signings of Aussie international Mark Lemon and highly-rated Dane Rene Bach.

Both have been in good form for their new team since their introduction and they helped them to a 64-26 home demolition of Redcar at the weekend.

Tigers chief Neil Machin said: “They haven’t been the best of travelling sides, but they are a much different proposition now.

“That was a big win for them at the weekend against a Redcar side who came to Sheffield earlier in the season and inflicted the worst defeat for a decade on us. We have to make sure we don’t slip up in any department.

“Mark Lemon is a top-level rider who knows the quickest way around Owlerton and the new lad Rene Bach has started to get on the pace and could also be a big danger.”

Sheffield report a full-strength team for a fixture that will see all children under-15 admitted free of charge as part of British speedway's 80th anniversary celebration week. In addition to the celebrations, the first 250 children through the turnstiles will be presented with a specially commissioned autograph book. Supporters will be given opportunities to get the riders to sign them.

Also as an added attraction Ashley Mark, Stuntxtreme, will be performing during the evening. Ashley trains TV and Film motorcycle stunt riders and also runs a ‘wheelie school.’
