TIGERS HEAD TO CUMBRIA

Friday July 17, 2009
SHEFFIELD face a difficult Premier League encounter on Saturday evening when they travel to high-flying Workington (7.00pm).

The Comets currently lie in third place in the table and the Tigers will have to be at their very best if they are to maintain their recent improved run of form.

The Cumbrian side are a tough proposition on their home circuit and track probably the strongest heat-leader trio in the league – one of which is former Sheffield skipper, Andre Compton.

Tigers chief Neil Machin is anticipating a hard meeting. He said: "They have some tough riders, none more so than Andre, who is always determined to do well against us. But with guys like Kevin Doolan and World Cup rider Adrian Rymel in there, it makes it even harder.

"But we are on a high right now. There's a great team spirit in the camp, everyone's helping each other and the lads want to go out and win races. We are always optimistic when we go to Workington."

WORKINGTON: Kevin Doolan, Charles Wright (rider-replacement), Adrian Rymel, Richard Lawson, Andre Compton, Craig Cook, John Branney

SHEFFIELD: Ricky Ashworth, Hugh Skidmore, Joel Parsons, Richard Hall, Josh Auty, Paul Cooper, Chris Mills.
