SHEFFIELD 52 SCUNTHORPE 38

Thursday June 25, 2009
SHEFFIELD continued their impressive run of form with a 52-38 win over rivals Scunthorpe in an Owlerton thriller on Thursday night.

Richard Hall, a former Scunthorpe rider, was in brilliant form to inspire the home side with a five-ride maximum - including some breathtaking rides from the back.

But it was another all-round team effort from the fast-rising Tigers, who are rapidly becoming dark horses for honours this season.

Scunthorpe made a fist of it in an thrill-a-minute match, as they only trailed 22-20 after seven races.

But Hugh Skidmore's first win of the night, saw Sheffield extend their lead in the next race and when Hall and Chris Mills blew away former England international David Howe in the ninth race it put the hosts on course for three important league points.

TIGERS: R. Hall 15, J. Parsons 10, R. Ashworth 8+1, C. Mills 6+1, H. Skidmore 6+1, J. Auty 4+2, P. Cooper 3+1.
SCUNTHORPE: M. Karlsson 11, S. Lambert 8+2, C. Wilkinson 8, D. Howe 7, A. Allott 3, J. Hart 1, V. Bergstrom 0.
