TIGERS SUFFER LATE GLASGOW RALLY

Sunday May 03, 2009
SHEFFIELD gave a good account of themselves but went down to a 52-38 defeat at Glasgow on Sunday.

Eric Boocock's men kept it close for the majority of a keenly contested meeting in front of a bumper Ashfield crowd.

But James Grieves and Shane Parker combined in Heats 13 and 15 to deny Eric Boocock's men even a consolation point after pulling off a shock win at Owlerton on Thursday.

Going into Heat 13 there was still hope for Sheffield as they were only 38-34 behind on a well prepared track thanks to the efforts of former Sheffield favourite David Walsh who is now based in Glasgow.

But Grieves and Parker were not to be denied with maximums in Heats 13 and 15 to give Glasgow a maximum return.

Sheffield will take encouragement from a lot of their effort - but there are still certain areas of concern amongst the team which leave them well short of potential title challengers going into the regular league programme.

GLASGOW: James Grieves 15 (PICTURED), Shane Parker 13+2, Josh Grajczonek 11, Mitchell Davey 8+1, Peter Juul 4+1, Lee Smart 1, Ross Brady r/r.
SHEFFIELD: Ricky Ashworth 9, Ritchie Hawkins 8, Richard Hall 6, Josh Auty 5+1, Chris Mills 5+1, Joel Parsons 3+1, Paul Cooper 2.
