BEN FUND BONANZA A SUCCESS

Sunday March 29, 2009
THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund at Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The inaugural ‘Ben Fund Bonanza’ pulled in a bumper crowd to support injured and retired riders who fall on hard times.

Grand Prix star Leigh Adams was a worthy winner with a 14-point haul after dropping a point in his opening ride.

But his win over fellow Aussie Jason Crump, back at Owlerton for the second time in three weeks, in his next ride clearly gave him a lift.

Tigers skipper Ricky Ashworth was in superb form and beat Swedish Grand Prix ace Freddie Lindgren and a host of Elite League stars on the way to his 11-points.

Crump was handed second place on the countback system after finishing level with Tai Woffinden in 13-points.

Tigers co-promoter David Hoggart said: “It was a terrific occasion and on behalf of the ‘Ben Fund’ I would like to thank all the fans who turned out.”

1 Leigh Adams 14, 2 Jason Crump 13, 3 Tai Woffinden 13.
