TIGERS 50 SCUNTHORPE 40

Sunday March 22, 2009
TIGERS gained revenge for their heavy defeat by Scunthorpe on Friday with a 50-40 win at Owlerton on Sunday.

Skipper Ricky Ashworth was back to his best and received solid support from his colleagues.

Sheffield opened up a 26-16 gap after seven races, but Scunthorpe notched three heat wins in the final eight races to keep the result in doubt right up to the penultimate race.

There were other positives for the Owlerton men, with debutant Ritchie Hawkins looking lively despite having been out for a year through injury, and teenage reserve Josh Auty scored nine points with three passes from the back in his four rides, including a spectacular third-to-first burst in his opener.

New boy Richard Hall started with two wins before tailing off, while Sheffield will be pleased with their overall performance in a meeting which blew away the winter cobwebs in readiness for their Premier Trophy campaign which starts a week on Thursday.
