CLASSY COMPTON LEADS LADS TO VICTORY

Thursday September 18, 2008
SHEFFIELD Tigers continued their impressive late season run with a 52-38 win over rivals Scunthorpe at Owlerton on Thursday night.

Skipper Andre Compton was magnificent with a perfect 18-point maximum to fire a warning to the rest of the league ahead of Sunday’s showpiece Premier League Riders’ Championship on his home track.

The result was enough to confirm the Sheffield Window Centre-backed side’s place in the Jack Young Shield competition at the end of the season.

Skipper Compton led the way as Tigers survived some early-meeting jitters to open up a 12-point gap after 10 heats and capitalise as the Scorpions blew their tactical ride options.

Boss Eric Boocock: said: "There were times when we had to work hard because we knew Scunthorpe were capable of coming here and surprising us.

"But everything clicked on the night for us and Andre was magnificent."

TIGERS: Andre Compton 18, Lee Smethills 12+1, Joel Parsons 9+1, Ben Wilson 8+1, Paul Cooper 5, Kyle Hughes 0, Ricky Ashworth R/R.
