SHEFFIELD 65 MILDENHALL 27

Thursday July 03, 2008
SHEFFIELD racked up their biggest win of the season with a 65-27 demolition of Mildenhall on Thursday night at Owlerton.

It was a convincing victory for the Yorkshire side who provided no less than fourteen of the fifteen heat winners - and it left the Premier League’s basement club still searching for their first win of their league campaign.

It was a big pay night for the Tigers, with the pick of the bunch being Ricky Ashworth and Ben Wilson who both finished unbeaten by an opponent with 15-point and 13 (paid 15) maximums respectively.

Sheffield quickly opened up a 16-8 lead after four races and although Mildenhall momentarily replied with a 4-2 in heat 5, further heat advantages saw Eric Boocock’s men go 20-points up after heat 9.

Fen Tigers guest Chris Schramm donned the black and white helmet for double points in heat 11 in an attempt to reduce the deficit, but he could only finish in second place behind the in-form Wilson. With Karl Hughes defeating Mikael Rajkowski for third place, the race was shared four-points apiece.

But that was as good as it got for the visitors with Sheffield closing out the meeting in style with a 4-2 and three 5-1s in the final four races. The big finish resulted in them hitting the magical sixty-point mark for the second time this season.

SHEFFIELD 65: Ricky Ashworth 15, Ben Wilson 13+2, Andre Compton 9, Joel Parsons 8+2, Paul Cooper 8+2, Lee Smethills 8+1, Kyle Hughes 4+1
