SHEFFIELD ensured they finished top of the regular Premiership table for the third time in four seasons with an emphatic 57-33 home win over Ipswich on Thursday.
Had the fixture been raced prior to the cut-off date, their play-off journey, and outcome, may well have been very different.
But almost 24 hours after the news broke that the South Yorkshire club were up for sale, the riders gave supporters plenty to cheer about on their final outing of 2025.
The Tru7 Group Tigers made another strong start on home shale with three 5-1s in the opening five races to establish a 21-9 lead over their Grand Final bound opponents and built on that in the second half of the meeting, rounding off the night, and the campaign, in perfect fashion with another maximum courtesy of Chris Holder and Josh Pickering.
Holder raced his way to a 12+3 paid maximum whilst Pickering also scored 12 - and was unlucky to be denied a point extra when a clear transponder error judged he didn’t beat Jason Edwards to the line in Heat Four.
Anders Rowe was in excellent form once again with paid 14 whilst Jack Holder raced to three wins out of four.
Leon Flint weighed in with 8+1 and Jye Etheridge battled his way to 3+2.
Team manager Simon Stead said: “We wanted to finish off strongly.
“Obviously the play-offs were disappointing but we picked ourselves up like we have done all season.
“For us, it was really important to give the supporters a big performance and a big result as a thank you for the support they’ve given us all season.
“The Sheffield support is second to none and the backing we get both home and away means a lot to the lads.
“There’s now a big, big winter coming up for the club and British Speedway in general - let’s just hope the Tigers are back up to the tapes in 2026.”
There is one fixture left to come at Owlerton in the National Development League; the Steelers are waiting for Leicester Lion Cubs to agree a date.
