TIGERS 59 ISLE OF WIGHT 33

Thursday June 19, 2008
RICKY Ashworth and Andre Compton were unbeaten as Sheffield Tigers pulled off an impressive 59-33 win over Premier League rivals Isle of Wight at Owlerton on Thursday night.

The Islanders have traditionally provided tough opposition at Owlerton - but they could find no answer to Eric Boocock's in-form side.

Ben Wilson's maximum hopes were only spoiled by a last heat blip, when veteran Paul Fry shot out of the gate and managed to hold the home ace off for four tight laps, with Ashworth leading by a country mile.

Prior to that, Wilson had followed on from last week with four successive wins.

With the Islanders struggling to get out of the starts, Sheffield made the most of their chances and had solid scoring right down the ranks with only rookie Kyle Hughes off the pace.

TIGERS: R. Ashworth 14+1, B. Wilson 13, A. Compton 12, P. Cooper 7+1, L. Smethills 6+2, J. Parsons 6+1, K. Hughes 1.
ISLANDERS: C. Gathercole 10, P. Fry 7+1, G. Phillips 4+1, A. Bargh 4+1, K. Stojanowski 4, J. Holder 3, J. Bunyan 1+1.

SHEFFIELD are unchanged for their trip to Premier League title hopefuls Edinburgh on Friday night (7.30pm).
