TIGERS NAME SIX

Thursday November 21, 2024
SHEFFIELD have announced six members of their team for the 2025 season.

Jack Holder, Chris Holder, Tai Woffinden and Josh Pickering have all been retained whilst talented British youngsters Anders Rowe and Leon Flint are the new faces in the Tigers’ line-up.

The seventh and final rider was also set to be announced, but a very late change in situation means they will now be confirmed in due course.

The definite six were unveiled at a special STAARS winter event at the New Barrack Tavern, with the side receiving a positive response from the supporters present.

Promoter Damien Bates said: “We didn’t want to change too much because we weren’t a million miles away last year.

“Of course we were disappointed we couldn’t defend the league title, but we only missed out by a couple of points in the play-off semis and we won the Knockout Cup.

“Obviously Tai was injured as well but with him, Jack, Chris and Picko as a top four, if they can have an injury free year and just do what they do, it only needs Anders, Leon and the seventh rider to score their average and we’ll win speedway meetings.

“Something changed very late on with the final rider but as a management team we’re working on things and we’ll inform supporters of that signing when the time is right.

“The whole league is going to be competitive next year and I don’t think any one team is going to run away with it.

“So we’re more than happy with the team we’ve got so far, it’s got four proven heat-leaders and a couple of British youngsters who can hopefully continue to progress and we’re looking forward to having another solid year at Sheffield.”

Jack Holder will begin a fourth straight season with the club – and with Kyle Howarth having joined Leicester, the World No.6 becomes the only rider to sign for the Tigers in each year since stepping back into the top-flight of British Speedway.

Jack’s older brother Chris also returns having enjoyed a mighty fine campaign last term. The 2012 World Champion was the Tigers’ top points scorer throughout 2024 and was voted the Track Staff’s Rider of the Year.

Having seen his season, again, cruelly ended prematurely through injury, Tai Woffinden is back for more and hopes to pick up where he left off as he won over 50 per cent of his outings for Sheffield in official fixtures in ’24.

Fans’ favourite Josh Pickering enjoyed some spectacular showings, particularly in the second half of the season, and the Aussie will be targeting another step up in 2025.

New signing Anders Rowe will start the season in the main body of the team having performed admirably as King’s Lynn’s Rising Star this year. He scored 25+2 from three visits to Owlerton, including an impressive race win over Woffinden.

Previously announced Leon Flint joins as the new Rising Star as he makes the switch from Birmingham.

Season Ticket details and 2025 admission prices will also be confirmed in due course.
