HOWARTH DEDICATES CUP TO FANS

Sunday September 08, 2024
SHEFFIELD skipper Kyle Howarth has dedicated their Premiership Knockout Cup triumph to the club’s supporters.

The Tru7 Group Tigers claimed the first silverware of the season with a 100-80 aggregate victory over Ipswich last week.

They put themselves in the driving seat with a tremendous 20 point victory at Owlerton before fighting back from ten points down to earn a draw in the second leg in Suffolk.

After winning the Premiership League Cup in 2022 and the Grand Final last term, it means it’s a third trophy in three years in the top-flight of British Speedway for the Tigers - and Howarth has been a part of all three successes.

“It was a solid effort all round,” Howarth said.

“To take 20 points to Ipswich was important because we know how tough it can be there.

“We did really good at home and we went to Ipswich and just kept chipping away.

“We got some 5-1s and some 4-2s, then they did too but then we came back at them as well.

“We really dug deep, we all chipped in as a team and we won as a team.

“To bring another trophy to Sheffield for a third straight year is a great result and I’m really proud of all the boys.

“That was for the Sheffield fans who I want to say a big thank you to for all of their support week in, week out - that’s for those guys.”

The ROWE Motor Oil Premiership play-off semi-finals get underway on Monday (September 9) with Ipswich hosting Leicester before the return in the East Midlands on Thursday (September 12).

Sheffield’s first leg against rivals Belle Vue takes place in Manchester on Monday, September 16 with the decider at Owlerton on Thursday, September 19.

In the meantime, there is action in the Steel City this Thursday (September 12) with the Tiger Cubs’ staging their final National Development League home fixture of the season at Owlerton against Belle Vue Colts - where supporters will also have the opportunity to have their photograph taken alongside Tigers’ favourite Josh Pickering and the KO Cup trophy between 6.15pm and 7.15pm.
