THURSDAY PREVIEW: LEICESTER v TIGERS

Wednesday July 03, 2024
SHEFFIELD No.1 Jack Holder will face a late fitness test ahead of Thursday’s (July 4, 7.30pm) ROWE Motor Oil Premiership trip to Leicester.

The Aussie missed Monday’s defeat at Oxford after feeling the effects from a crash in his semi-final of last Saturday’s FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland.

Whilst still feeling both stiff and sore, Holder is in a better position than he was at the beginning of the week and will make a call on Thursday morning regarding his participation at the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena.

Elsewhere, Tai Woffinden has confirmed his elbow has shattered into four pieces and whilst an exact time frame is still yet to be determined, it is anticipated it will be a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to the serious nature of his injuries.

With six of the seven top-flight sides again in action, Sheffield have called on former Tiger Troy Batchelor to guest against the club he had a brief stint with last season.

Leicester haven’t raced on home shale for over a month and two home defeats already have left them outside the play-off places.

One of those came at the hands of the Tru7 Group Tigers back in April when they grabbed a last race 5-1 to walk away with a 46-44 win.

Chris Holder was one of the Heat 15 heroes on that occasion and he also starred as the side’s top scorer in their brave effort at Oxford earlier this week.

But with the Tigers again heading into another fixture without their regular 1-7, the 2012 World Champion feels all the pressure and expectation will be with their opponents.

“Leicester are a solid team and they need the points,” Holder said.

“We’re going to be missing at least one of our boys with Woffy out injured but if we can go there and put up a similar fight to what we did at Oxford, we’ll be happy enough.

“We go there with nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

For any supporters unable to make the journey to Beaumont Park, the meeting will be streamed online for just £12.99 via: https://watch.britishspeedway.co.uk/
