SHEFFIELD Speedway are delighted to welcome Autocraft Motor Caravans as the club’s National Development League main team sponsor for 2024.

Sheffield have entered a joint side along with Scunthorpe into this year’s third tier with the first fixture taking place this Thursday (April 25, 7.30 pm) at Owlerton Stadium against Middlesbrough.

They will be known as the Sheffield Autocraft Tiger Cubs with Jack Smith, Luke Harrison, Ace Pijper, Mickie Simpson, Sheldon Davies, Kean Dicken and Stene Pijper making up their starting seven.

The two Autocraft Motor Caravans Directors behind the deal have a strong speedway background with Jonno Birks a long-serving mechanic on the world stage and Ashley Birks a former National League Riders’ Champion who enjoyed two spells as a Sheffield rider.

Ashley Birks said: “Speedway means so much to our family, particularly me and my brother Jonno, we just love the sport.

“It’s been such a massive part of our lives and whilst we’ve helped out with sponsorship previously, when the opportunity came along to be main team sponsors of Sheffield in the National Development League, it was a no-brainer for us really.

“It’s great to see that level of racing coming back to Sheffield, and Scunthorpe, and that league is so important to the young, up-and-coming riders.

“Hopefully our support will help the club and the riders and it would be nice if this wasn’t just a one year thing.

“I really hope the supporters get behind this project and we wish all of the team the best for the season ahead.”
