REACTION - TIGERS 58 KING’S LYNN 32

Friday April 19, 2024
SHEFFIELD boss Simon Stead dedicated their big home win over King’s Lynn to the club’s supporters and track staff.

The Tru7 Group Tigers finally got racing at Owlerton on Thursday following a series of rain-offs and enjoyed a 58-32 rout over the Stars.

Stead was impressed with how quickly his riders got back into their groove on home shale and was pleased to see the Tigers build on their encouraging enough start to the season.

Said Stead: “It’s always a difficult one when you’re coming back for a home meeting after six months or so and you’ve not even had chance for a practice or anything.

“It would’ve been quite easy to come unstuck but the fact that the boys got their heads down, rode like they’ve never been away from the place and carried on their momentum with a really convincing win was everything I could’ve asked for and more really.

“I have to say we’ve got one of the best track teams going and it’s amazing really how good that track was.

“Some of the things I’ve seen because of the weather we’ve had in recent months here stunned me if I’m being honest and Graham (Trollope - track curator) and his team have had so much work to do.

“It was incredible how they’ve turned things around though and then on top of that for it to be as good as it was and to produce some of the racing that it did, full credit to them and a big thank you because it’s been a lot of hard work and a lot of hours under some difficult circumstances.

“A word for the supporters as well; they’ve been starved of speedway at Sheffield at the front end of this season and even on a really cold night, they still turned out in real good numbers to support us.

“Hopefully they enjoyed what the boys served up for them and hopefully we can bring more good meetings like that to them throughout the rest of the season also.”

Sheffield travel to Norfolk for the return ROWE Motor Oil Premiership R1 fixture on Monday (April 22, 7.30 pm).
