PREVIEW: CUP FINAL TIME - TIGERS v IPSWICH

Sunday September 10, 2023
SHEFFIELD stage the first leg of the 2023 Premiership Knockout Cup Final against Ipswich at Owlerton on Monday (September 11, 7.30).

It promises to be a special night in the Steel City as the Tru Plant Tigers look to build up a healthy advantage ahead of the decider in Suffolk on Thursday (September 14, 7.30).

The South Yorkshire side are the holders of the top-flight’s cup competition but know they will face a much stiffer test from Ipswich than King’s Lynn provided last term.

Sheffield have beaten the Witches 51-39 on both of their visits to Owlerton in the league this year - and have also come out on top on aggregate on both occasions also.

Tigers are on an eight match winning streak at home and team boss Simon Stead hopes his riders can utilise that to put them in a strong position.

“It may be an old cliché, but we want to take as big a lead possible as we can there and build on our improvements at home of late,” he said.

“We’ve had some really, really strong performances at home over the past month or so and we’ve got a bit more balance around our team now so hopefully we can carry that on now that it matters most.

“We’re the holders of the top-flight’s cup competition and we desperately want to retain it.

“The clashes we’ve already had against one another this season have been tasty so far - I think it’s going to be a really special cup final against Ipswich.”

Sheffield have booked Australian Grand Prix star Max Fricke to guest in place of injured No.1 Tai Woffinden whilst Kyle Newman is handed a second guest booking of the season at reserve with Claus Vissing still struggling from a knee knock.

Sheffield Speedway would like to remind supporters that season tickets are NOT valid for this fixture.

Children aged 17 and under will be admitted for just £1 with adult admission set at £22 while it’s £20 for concessions.

SHEFFIELD: Max Fricke, Kyle Howarth, Chris Holder, Josh Pickering, Tobiasz Musielak, Kyle Newman, Jason Edwards.
IPSWICH: Emil Sayfutdinov, Erik Riss, Danny King, Danyon Hume, Jason Doyle, Keynan Rew, Joe Thompson.
