RACEDAY BUILD-UP: TIGERS v PETERBOROUGH

Thursday May 05, 2022
SHEFFIELD launch their league programme tonight (Thursday, May 5, 7.30) as they host reigning Premiership Champions Peterborough at Owlerton.

The fixture sees racing return to the Steel City venue for the first time in three weeks following a gap in the schedule.

The Tru Plant Tigers will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the season after winning all three of their League Cup meetings to date.

They come up against a Peterborough side who were well beaten 64-26 in their opener on Monday - but Tigers boss Simon Stead is expecting a keenly contested head-to-head.

“Peterborough are a very, very good line-up,” he said.

“They’re a solid outfit with a great team manager in Rob Lyon who I respect very much.

“It will be a tough test for us, we know that, but we just need to concentrate on what we can do.

“Concentrate on how we go about our business, try and improve on what we’ve done so far and just keep doing what we have been doing.”

The club will pay tribute to former centre green presenter and press officer Nigel Pearson who passed away suddenly over the Easter weekend.

A minute's applause will be held prior to the meeting parade and a special raceday programme has been produced with tributes from some of Nigel's closest friends included.

Elsewhere, the first 100 kids through the turnstiles will receive a free sponge Tigers' paw.

SHEFFIELD: Jack Holder, Craig Cook, Tobiasz Musielak, Kyle Howarth, Adam Ellis, Stefan Nielsen, Connor Mountain.
