TIGERS CELEBRATE NEW SPONSORSHIP

Thursday December 07, 2006
SHEFFIELD Tigers Speedway team have joined forces with Sheffield Window Centre in a new club sponsorship deal.

After five hugely successful seasons with nationwide company Pirtek, the Owlerton outfit are delighted to link up with the city company in a two-year agreement.

The deal will see Sheffield Window Centre's vans carry the speedway identity throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Speedway fan Ian Hunter, owner of the city-based company, stepped forward to enhance his relationship with Sheffield after backing individual riders and events down the years... starting 30-years ago with ex-Tiger Phil White!

"It's a great honour for myself and the company to be involved with Sheffield Speedway," said Ian, whose son - also named Ian - is taking more of an active role with the business.

"I first saw speedway at Sheffield in 1970 and I just love the sport, it's as simple as that really.

"I want to see the crowds increase at Owlerton and if we can play our part in that somewhere along the line then that's great."

Meanwhile Tigers owner Neil Machin is jubilant about the news of a new identity for the club.

He said: "Ian Hunter and Sheffield Window Centre have always taken an increasing interest in our activities certainly since Ricky Ashworth's career has been at Sheffield as Ricky has always carried their identity.

"This is great news for the club and we look forward to carrying Sheffield Window Centre's name with pride."
