SHEFFIELD co-owner Peter Mole has confirmed plans remain in place for a revised fixture list once the season can start.

British Speedway Chairman Rob Godfrey has this week confirmed racing behind closed doors is not an option in the current financial structure of the sport.

But Mole has revealed how fixture compilers are working on a regular basis to look at every option for a new season once the government say it is safe and legal to do so.

“Plans are in hand for the fixture list in all leagues as soon as we get the go ahead to resume track action,” said Mole. “Lee Kilby at Swindon and Chris Louis at Ipswich have been working on various permutations, and all eventualities are covered.

“As soon as the government give the go ahead, we’ll be ready to kick off and get back on track.

“It’s good to see the Speedway of Nations has now fixed a definitive staging date at the back end of the season, and this promises to be a fantastic event at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester.”

Mole has also revealed how the club have put thousands into the new season and will do everything possible to support the business in hard times.

He said: “Like other speedway promoters, we at Sheffield have invested a lot of money for the season and are itching to get going.

“Most of us within speedway are fortunate that we rent our tracks on race nights, so most of our outgoings are running costs.

“Although financially worrying, we should not be putting our long-term security in jeopardy.

“What we have done is invest a lot of money into the preparing for the season, so we need to get started as soon as it is deemed safe to do so, or else it may be an entirely different scenario come next winter.”
