HOLDER SECURES GP QUALIFIER SPOT

Sunday January 12, 2020
SHEFFIELD racer Jack Holder booked his place in the Speedway Grand Prix Qualifiers as the Australian Championship came to its conclusion on Saturday.

The 23-year-old produced a stunning performance to fire himself into the qualification places - dropping just one-point on his way to victory in Gillman.

Reigning champion and GP star Max Fricke comfortably retained his title as he became Australian Champion for the second time.

Holder’s victory in the final round earned him second place behind Fricke on 62, with 2018 winner Tungate third on 59 and Chris Holder fourth on 57. All four riders earn Australia’s spots in the Speedway Grand Prix qualification rounds.

Despite falling just short of a first Aussie Championship title, Holder was delighted to have achieved his main goal heading into the series.

“I’m stoked with this win tonight and although I couldn’t get top spot overall, the goal of a top four finish has been achieved.

“Congratulations to Max (Fricke) who has been awesome all series and fair play to him for winning this title back-to-back.

“This is a great track to ride and a huge well done to the track staff who produced a top surface for us to race on. Thanks as well to the fantastic fans who again turned up tonight and supported the event.

“I’m looking forward to getting over to Sheffield now.”
