NEW APPOINTMENT

Monday October 28, 2019
GO-AHEAD Tigers have made their first signing for 2020 - and they're delighted at the news.

Following the Owlerton club's massively well-received elevation into the SGB Premiership, they have moved quickly to secure the services of a man they say will set the pulses racing

That's because new track curator Andy Meredith, who today agreed to become a key part of the Sheffield back room team, has been brought in to make sure the track will provide top-class racing as British Speedway's top stars do battle in the steel city for the first time in 32 years.

Andy is the man behind the track prep at Belle Vue's National Speedway Stadium, which has earned rave reviews for the quality of racing action - and it's that standard that the Tigers promoters want to replicate.

Said co-promoter Damien Bates: "It's no secret that we had issues last season with our track and that's one thing that we are determined to put right.

"It has to be week-on-week and Andy is just the man.

"He came in to help out at Owlerton towards the end of last season and I think we all saw the improvement, especially that final meeting against Newcastle when we saw some terrific action.

"Andy will now be our full-time track curator and he know all there is to know about preparing a speedway surface because he has a wealth of experience both on and off a bike.

"Belle Vue has been lauded for the quality of racing and we all know that Sheffield on its day is one of the best tracks in the business.

"Andy has also worked wonders in combating the bad weather which is vitally important."

Tigers are also working on their new septet for next season with positive signs on several fronts. The first announcements are expected to be made in November.
