SHEFFIELD welcome some of the country’s brightest prospects to Owlerton on Sunday as they proudly host the 2019 National League Pairs (5.30).

The event makes a return to the calendar for the first time since 2015 - and there’s a high quality line-up with each of the eight third tier clubs represented.

Sheffield’s own Drew Kemp, who was recently crowned the new British Under-19 Champion, rides for Kent and will be among the favourites as he partners Anders Rowe, who also finished on the rostrum in that same national event.

Former Tigers Joe Lawlor, Nathan Stoneman and Ben Wilson are also included.

National League co-ordinator Jason Pipe said: “Looking through the pairings for this, I just can’t pick a pair who I think will win the trophy - the line-up is that strong.

“Let’s hope for another exciting finish like at the Fours and hope it goes down to the very last race before the winners are known.”

Meanwhile Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates said: “Here at Sheffield we are always looking at the youngsters and their potential for development and this season we have been delighted to see Drew Kemp progress in our own colours.

“We’re proud to be hosting such a competitive event and looking down the line-up it’s brilliant and I’m sure there will be fans from all over the country here supporting their riders.”

Owlerton track record holder Ricky Ashworth will be a special guest of honour with collections for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund throughout the evening.

There are 18 races in total and admission is just £15 adults, £10 concessions with kids 15 and under FREE.

Gates open at 4pm.
