TIGERS BACK HOME ON SUNDAY

Saturday July 27, 2019
SHEFFIELD are back in home action on Sunday (5.30) with Newcastle the visitors to Owlerton.

Tigers have the opportunity to go level on points with third placed Somerset whilst they could also open up a seven point gap over fifth placed Redcar.

But Newcastle have a team full of quality and experience as well as racers who have a decent record in the Steel City.

They include former Great Britain international Steve Worrall and dynamic Dane Lasse Bjerre who won the league title with Tigers two years ago.

Ulrich Ostergaard won the Premier League Riders’ Championship at Owlerton in 2015 whilst Yorkshireman Max Clegg did many laps of the circuit as a Sheffield junior.

Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates believes his side have got what it takes to get three more precious league points - but knows his side will have to battle hard to earn them.

“Newcastle have got a strong team capable of hitting the high numbers at Owlerton,” Bates said.

“They’ll come to Sheffield wanting the points just as much as we will and they’ve got matches in hand on everyone so will still fancy their chances of climbing up the table.

“But we know what we’ve got to do and there’s still a good feeling in the camp that this can be a successful season for Sheffield.”

Tigers will again be without broken collarbone victim Broc Nicol.

NEWCASTLE: Steve Worrall, Ulrich Ostergaard, Lasse Bjerre, Matthew Wethers, Thomas Jorgensen, Max Clegg, Danny Phillips.
