KING MAX AS TIGERS WIN

Sunday July 14, 2019
SHEFFIELD No.1 Danny King struck a 15-point maximum in a 51-39 win over Eastbourne at Owlerton.

The former British Champion inspired a solid team performance as the Tigers responded well to last weekend’s home defeat against Redcar.

There was plenty of exciting action too as the Owlerton outfit consolidated their place in the top four.

“It was important to get back to winning ways and it was a good win as well,” King said.

“Obviously I’m delighted to get such a good score personally but to do it when the team have won and performed how how we did makes it even more pleasing.

“I actually think we deserved to get a few more points too; Zaine (Kennedy) lost a chain as did Josh (MacDonald) who also had a puncture at one stage too.

“It was a good performance all-round though and there are plenty of positives to take from it.”

King was supported well by fellow heat-leaders Kyle Howarth and Ty Proctor who chipped in with 19-points between them.

Josh MacDonald produced a second successive score of 7+1 while Zaine Kennedy rode much harder than his five points suggest.

That was the same total for teenager Drew Kemp who battled hard for his points and pulled off some stunning outside passes on a much improved display from the 16-year-old.

Sheffield head to Redcar a week on Friday (July 26, 7.30) before hosting Newcastle on Sunday, July 28.

SHEFFIELD 51: Danny King 15, Kyle Howarth 10+1, Ty Proctor 9+1, Josh MacDonald 7+1, Drew Kemp 5, Zaine Kennedy 5, Broc Nicol R/R.
EASTBOURNE 39: Richard Lawson 14, Lewis Kerr 10, Alfie Bowtell 5, Edward Kennett 5, Kyle Newman 3+1, Ben Morley 1+1, Georgie Wood 1.
