SHEFFIELD’S Cup hopes are over after their 54-36 defeat at Glasgow – that’s 99-81 on aggregate.

And club co-owner Damien Bates admits they were always up against it after failing to take any lead to Scotland from their drawn first leg a fortnight ago.
Said Bates: “Obviously it’s a major disappointment to go out of any competition.
“Having said that, we all know we left ourselves a with a tough task when we were held to a draw in the home leg.
“Congratulations to Glasgow and we wish them well. For us it’s all about this weekend now and the visit of Scunthorpe to Owlerton with the new start time of 5.30pm.
“Scunthorpe and ourselves have a special rivalry and we want to put one over them. We need our fans to get behind us and we need the lads to be on top form!”
The Sheffield Window Centre Tigers made an encouraging start but faded as the meeting progressed.
Howarth pulled off a magnificent ride in Heat 7 to get the edge on Vissing and with Ty Proctor third Sheffield were back within four points.
Cumbrian racer Bickley, was impressive for Glasgow at Owlerton, rode brilliantly to partner James Sarjeant for a maximum over Kemp and Nicol to restore the eight-point lead Glasgow.
And a well times 5-1 in the next for the home side gave them a 12-point cushion which Sheffield were never going to recover from.
