NEW START TIME

Friday May 24, 2019
SHEFFIELD Tigers are to tweak their Sunday start time - and bosses say it'll be a win-win move for fans.

The Owlerton club have switched from 4pm to the later time of 5.30 after listening to supporters and also upping their intention to provide better racing at the steel city track.

The new start will begin at the big Championship derby clash with rivals Scunthorpe on June 2.

Said co-boss Damien Bates: "Going for 4pm was an optimum time for use because it allowed us to develop the younger element in our crowd- and that has proven a big success.
"But we do understand that the afternoon racing eats into what is a busy social day and often it doesn't allow families to do anything else. We feel that by going to 5.30pm it will do that and will still allow youngsters to get home early enough when they have school the next day.
"And given that there's a heatwave forecast heading into the summer we feel that early evening speedway will also allow fans to do other things before coming along to Owlerton."

The later start time will mean fewer issues with the track.
"We did head into uncharted waters with Sunday racing and another aspect has been the difficulty in getting the track spot on in hot conditions, something that really wasn't an issue on Thursday nights," he added.

"We have now got it bang on and have spent a lot of money on the surface which we hope will develop the calibre of racing our fans are used to.
"As we saw against Berwick last weekend, the track held up excellently even though we were hit by heavy showers as the match progressed.
"We've made this move with the supporters in mind and hopefully they will continue to support us."
