BOTH of Sheffield’s representatives reached the Grand Final of Sunday’s 2019 Teng Tools Top Gun Championship.
Zaine Kennedy passed Tigers team-mate Drew Kemp to snatch third place from the youngster who finished the qualifying heats as top scorer. The meeting was won by Redcar’s Jordan Stewart who was only called up at short notice following the withdrawal of Tigers’ Kasper Andersen who sustained a hand injury in Denmark on Saturday. It was a useful exercise for Kennedy and Kemp though who were both pleased with their afternoon’s work. Third placed Kennedy said: “Of course it would’ve been nice to win but I’ve got some more laps under my belt and I’ve finished in the top three so I can’t complain. “I tested some new motors and tried a few different things; towards the end I found something I was pretty happy with so I’ll take it.” Meanwhile team-mate Kemp said: “It was another meeting at Sheffield which is important because we’ve got some big fixtures coming up. “I was happy enough with how I rode overall but I just didn’t quite have enough in the first couple of bends in the final and I got shut out a little. “But after only just missing out on the Final in the British Under-21s at Berwick on Saturday as well it’s been a pretty good weekend and I’ve learned a lot.” Tigers launch their home league campaign against second tier newcomers Birmingham next Sunday (May 5) - and a slightly later start time of 4.30pm has now been confirmed. QUALIFYING SCORES: Drew Kemp 11, Jordan Stewart 10, Jedd List 10, Danyon Hume 9, Ryan Kinsley 8, Zaine Kennedy 7, Josh McDonald 5, Leon Flint 4, Tom Woolley 3, Jamie Halder 3, Anders Rowe 2, Ryan MacDonald 0.
