TIGERS CELEBRATE 90th ANNIVERSARY THIS SUNDAY

Friday March 22, 2019
SHEFFIELD celebrate their 90th Anniversary this Sunday (4pm) as they raise the curtain on their 2019 season.

Bosses have assembled a highly competitive 16-rider line-up for the event which includes all seven of this years Tigers team plus the likes of Great Britain International Steve Worrall and double World Longtrack Champion Erik Riss.

A host of former riders will also be in attendance and co-promoter Damien Bates reckons it will be a stunning meeting to kick-off an exciting new era for the club.

“It’s the first of our Sunday meetings at Owlerton for the year and I think the line-up looks brilliant,” Bates said.

“There’s a real good mixture of riders which will be good for all of the Sheffield team and I honestly couldn’t pick a winner.

“The track was brilliant at Press and Practice earlier in the week and I think we’re in for one hell of a meeting.

“It’s going to be nice to see some old faces joining us throughout the day and we’ll no doubt reminisce about past memories as well as look forward to an exciting future as well.

“We’ve got plenty going on before and after the meeting too and we look forward to putting on a good show for everyone who comes along.”

Gates open at 2pm with refreshment facilities available including the famous Owlerton Carvery.

New Tigers signings Danny King and Drew Kemp will be available in the Mixed Zone (opposite the pits) for autograph and photo opportunities between 3.15 and 3.30 before Sheffield hero Ricky Ashworth, who almost lost his life in a racing accident nearly five years ago, will take to the track on a tandem bike and complete four laps ahead of the rider introductions at 3.40.

There will be warm-up laps and fireworks prior to the opening race and interviews with past and present riders throughout the event.

There will also be a ‘T-Shirt Supershot’ happening and supporters will have the chance to win £500 in a special Grand Prize Draw.

Kids go free at Owlerton this year while on Sunday there will be a face painter plus all race jackets from this meeting will be signed and auctioned off after the meeting, these can be bid on before for a fixed price offer of £100.
