STEAD READY FOR TIGERS G-R-R-REAT START!

SHEFFIELD legend Simon Stead believes Sunday is set to go down as one of the “greatest” days in the club’s history.

The Tigers kick off their 2019 campaign with their 90th anniversary meeting and a new era Sunday afternoon raceday (4pm start).

It’s a hugely-talented line-up for the the prestigious Steel City Championship, the first competitive action at the exciting Owlerton raceway including former British Champion Danny King, Great Britain star Steve Worrall and double World Longtrack Champion Erik Riss.

With the weather forecast excellent, team boss Stead can’t wait for the season to start, saying: “It promises to be a very special start to the campaign on Sunday.

“It could well be one of the great days in the club’s history. We have a great afternoon start time now which is perfect for families.

“This is the best squad of riders we have had for a couple of years since winning the league championship. We have a wonderful blend of youth, experience and tons of excitement.

“When you add in the talent on Sunday of Rory Schlein, Steve Worrall, David Bellego and Erik Riss, it is a mouthwatering start to the season.”

It will be an action-packed opener for the Tigers, with rider parade at 3.45pm. Kids go free at Owlerton while on Sunday there will be a face painter, legendary ex-riders on show plus all race jackets from this meeting will be signed and auctioned off after the meeting, these can be bid on before for a fixed price offer of £100.

There’s also a Grand Draw Raffle, Prize fund off £500 to be won while Sheffield riders will be available for photos and autographs before the meeting.

Stead added: “We had an excellent first team outing on track on Wednesday. All the boys look fired up and quick.

“This is arguably the most exciting Sheffield team we’ve had in years and they look so good around the quick Owlerton track.

“I genuinely believe this is a great side but most of all very entertaining.”
