ASHWORTH CONCUSSED IN CLASSIC

Sunday January 06, 2008
COVENTRY’S Chris Harris picked up the first piece of silverware for 2008 in Sunday’s New Year Classic at Newport, but it was Sheffield’s Ricky Ashworth who ended the meeting in the wars.

Harris was a class above the rest of the field scoring 14 points from his qualifying rides, and also produced the goods in the Grand Final claiming victory from Brent Werner, Leigh Lanham and Ritchie Hawkins.

Ashworth had a mixed afternoon suffering a retirement in his opening ride, before going onto pick up four points from his next two outings. Unfortunately, he then took a tumble in heat 11 and although he was back up and walking okay afterwards, he withdrew from the remainder of the meeting with concussion.

SCORERS
